abstract = "The water resources management is essential to ensure the
availability of water in adequate quality and quantity for future
generations, being necessary to carry out the integrated
management of these units, considering the need to reconcile the
development of human activities and environmental preservation to
ensure sustainable development. The environmental zoning, combined
with geoprocessing techniques, emerges as an important tool to
ensure proper management of water resources, making it possible to
define the areas suitable for particular activity from the
socioeconomic demands and biophysical characteristics of the river
basin. Thus, this study aimed to elaborate an environmental zoning
for a pilot unit of the sub-basin Contendas stream, which is a
tributary of the Candid{\'o}polis basin, main urban and
industrial water supply source in the municipality of Itabira
Minas Gerais (MG). The environmental zoning map was generated by
using the following maps: soil use and occupation map, map of the
Permanent Protection Areas located on the pilot unit, slope
classes map and vulnerability map of the Economical-Ecological
Zoning - MG. Three different zones were defined for the
environmental zoning: economic use, recovery and conservation. The
recovery zone corresponded to an area of 22.4 ha, areas of
economic use equal to 12.4 ha and conservation areas equal to 30.9
ha.",
